The Levites – Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, and Pelaiah – then instructed the people in the Law while everyone remained in their places. They read from the Book of the Law of God and clearly explained the meaning of what was being read, helping the people understand each passage. – Nehemiah 9: 7-8
When the Israelites recommitted themselves to the Lord after their exile, it took 13 Levites to re-teach the Law to the people.
This means each of the 13 brought something unique to the table to help the people with their understanding.
So it goes to show:
The Word is so powerful and potent that reading it by ourselves just won’t serve us well when it comes to deepening our understanding.
If God speaks to each of us through His word, then that means He reveals different messages to us at different times in our lives.
And how cool is it that in our era, we have the benefit of the church community, books, online sermons, and conferences to hear a variety of testimonies and interpretations of the Word?
Through these different channels, we can receive clarity on the meaning and history of Scripture, as well as confirmation and encouragement from the Holy Spirit.
So we should never close our hearts or ears to what someone else has to say about the Word.
Because the Holy Spirit gives us the discernment we need to sift through false teachings, and He leads us to the messages we need to hear when we need to hear them.
While God speaks to us personally every day, we must know that much of our understanding and growth comes through our togetherness.
Be blessed,
Alexia
