When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within Him,” and He was deeply troubled. Where have you put him?” he asked them. They told Him, “Lord, come and see.” Then Jesus wept. – John 11: 33-35
The first time I read about how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, I thought He cried because He was heartbroken over his passing.
But after a closer read, it seems like that may not necessarily be the reason why He wept.
Scripture says that a deep anger welled within Him when He saw Mary and the others wailing.
And after He asked where they put Lazarus’ body, He wept and was still angry when He arrived at the tomb.
When He told Mary to roll the stone away, she protested because Lazarus had been dead for four days.
But what Jesus told her after this reveals why He was angry and why He was moved to tears:
Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you would believe?
Jesus knew He held all power in His hands, and that He was sent by God. He knew that anything was possible for someone who believed.
He tried to reinforce this to the people over and over again when He ministered in public.
Yet still, the people demonstrated a lack of faith in His power…
So what we should take away from this is that it pains Jesus to witness our lack of faith.
When we face problems, we shouldn’t go into distress mode when we know that all things are possible through Christ.
No matter our circumstances, we should be at peace as we look to Him in faith.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, no matter what life may throw at me, help me to understand that all power is in your hands and that it’s a waste of my time and energy to be troubled or upset about anything. Teach me how to be strong and trust in your power and divine timing. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
