So I brought them out of Egypt and led them into the wilderness. There I gave them my decrees and regulations so they could find life by keeping them. – Ezekiel 20: 10-11
Once upon a time in a women’s ministry class, a very poignant topic came up about the purpose of the Mosaic and Levitical laws.
And one young lady asked a question that I’m sure millions of Christians have asked themselves in their walk with Christ:
If we’re saved by our faith in Jesus, and not by our works or our obedience to the law, then what’s the purpose of the law?
It was a million-dollar question indeed.
And the Bible gives us the answer!
When God created man and woman, they were unified in life with Him in the garden of Eden. Adam and Eve knew no sin until they ate of the forbidden fruit.
And once they ate, like a flood, they unleashed sin into the world, making mankind’s natural state one of sin and death (or separation from God).
But in Ezekiel Chapter 20, Scripture tells us that the purpose of the law was to restore life to the Israelites and other nations.
Through the law, God made His divine way known to man, giving us the spiritual map of His kingdom.
The law presented an opportunity for man to partake in life with the Father and not be cast away from Him in death.
However, there wasn’t a man or woman who truly had what it took to uphold the law.
Until Jesus!
Jesus came to fulfill the law and to be our eternal lead navigator to God’s heavenly kingdom.
He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14: 6).
And when we believe by faith that He died and rose again as a living sacrifice for our sins, His eternal blood does for us what we can’t do for ourselves:
His blood gives us eternal life in the Kingdom, never to be separated from God again!
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, thank you for your word that supplies all the answers to the questions I have about life. Thank you for establishing your law on earth to bring mankind back into fellowship with you. And thank you for sending your son Jesus to die for my sins. Strengthen my faith, Lord, and help me to always look to Jesus as my rock, my help, my comfort, and my Savior. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
