“There is the king of Israel!” they shouted. But Jehoshaphat called out, and the Lord saved him…An Aramean soldier, however, randomly shot an arrow at the Israelite troops and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his armor.” – 2 Chronicles 18: 31; 33

Proverbs 26: 27 says:

If you set a trap for others,

you will get caught in it yourself,

If you roll a boulder down on others,

it will crush you instead.

This is a serious warning for us, but at the same time, it can also evoke some comfort.

Because people may plan our downfall, but when we’ve dedicated our lives to the Lord, He always has the final say.

This was illustrated to the T with King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah.

King Ahab recruited King Jehoshaphat to go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, and together they consulted prophets to see if they would be victorious.

However, when the prophet Michaiah prophesied that King Ahab would be killed, King Ahab devised a plan to have Jehoshaphat taken out instead.

When they went to battle, Ahab disguised himself but told Jehoshaphat to go out fully dressed in his royal robes.

But even though Jehoshaphat was set up to be the clear target, the Lord saved him when he cried out.

And Ahab got struck by a random arrow that wasn’t even aimed at him.

So we should never worry about the harm someone is trying to inflict on us.

Because no human being has any power over our lives.

God will always work out everything for our good, no matter what kind of malice is lurking around us.

Prayer: God, when the enemy comes to attack me, I pray that you would bind and rebuke the malice intended for me. Keep me strong in your Word and show me mercy like you did for Jehoshaphat. No matter what the circumstance looks like, help me to understand that you always have the last word as far as my life is concerned. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
