“Yes, I am the bread of life! Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.” – John 6: 48-51

My perception of the Bible before reading it was that it was just a book of random ancient tall tales.

I didn’t recognize it as a carefully and intelligently crafted word from God.

But the more I read it, the more I understand that there’s absolutely nothing haphazard about the Bible at all.

Every word recorded is intentional, and every story is interwoven together with great significance.

When God sent manna to the Israelites in the days of Moses, they were confounded by it.

But for a good time, it was one of their only sources of sustenance. And it provided them all the nutrients they needed to survive.

And in the New Testament, Jesus performs a parallel miracle by feeding over 5,000 people with only five barley loaves and two fish.

Again, the people were confounded by the miracle.

And they were so fascinated that they demanded Jesus perform another miracle – citing the time Moses gave their ancestors manna from heaven.

But Jesus explains to them that the manna was given by God, and He clarifies its spiritual significance, along with the loaves of bread.

Which is that He is the everlasting manna. He is the everlasting bread of life sent by God!

And to eat the bread of His flesh and drink His blood would cause them to never hunger or thirst again.

Jesus carries this symbol of bread all the way into His final moments as He dines with His disciples in the last supper…

Who knew that biblical dots connected the manna, the miracle of the loaves, and the last supper together?

Bread is so significant in Scripture that we still eat it as a symbol of our faith during communion!

And if bread is that important, let us continue to consume the bread of life that is our Lord Jesus Christ each and every day!

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, thank you for showing me through your word just how important it is to eat the bread of life, which is your Son Jesus. Teach me how to walk like Him, talk like Him, think like Him, and love like Him. And help me to share His wonderful and delicious bread with others who are hungry. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
