“A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones…And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come…’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night…” – Luke 12: 16-20

As I was walking to the train the other day, it really hit me that nothing in this world matters:

The clothes we wear, the cars we drive, the money we make, the success we acquire, our relationship status, the trips we take, etc. – none of it matters.

And when that realization sunk in and I meditated on the eternity of Heaven, I felt a huge weight lift off of me.

It’s hard not to be concerned with the things of the world when we physically live in the world. I find myself getting sucked in to the hoopla of worldly aspirations every now and then.

But in those moments where we find ourselves immersed in all the world’s fluff, we have to remember Jesus’ parable of the rich fool and meditate on His teachings on worry:

…don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.

Our time here is extremely limited, but with the time that we have, God has promised to take care of us when we genuinely seek Him.

We need to remember that even though the world can induce a lot of stress and worry, Jesus has overcome the world.

When we trust in Him, He will give us everything we could ever need.

But more importantly, He will give us eyes that can see past the world and into the eternal.

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, please guard my heart, spirit, and mind from the illusions of this world. Help me to understand that worldly success means absolutely nothing to you and that the Kingdom of Heaven is far greater than any treasure I can find on this earth. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
