Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, a distance of half a mile. When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying. They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus. -Acts 1: 12-14
When Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples were so transfixed that they just stood still for a while, gazing into the heavens.
I can imagine the experience was bittersweet for them because their Messiah had finally taken His rightful place on His throne in heaven, but at the same time, they didn’t know when they would see Him again.
They were so hypnotized by the experience that it actually took two angels to snap them out of it: “Why are you standing here staring into heaven?” they said. “”Jesus has been taken from you into heaven…”
And when the apostles returned to Jerusalem, one of the first things they did was pray together.
They didn’t each go their separate ways to have a relationship with Christ all by themselves.
They were unified in prayer with other believers in their community because Jesus told them that wherever two or three were gathered together in His name, He would be there in the midst of them.
They knew they all needed to be in sync in order to see the power of the Holy Spirit move amongst them.
So we should take every opportunity we can to be united in prayer with others. We should pray regularly with church members, coworkers, friends, and especially close family members.
Because when we do, we are inviting the Holy Spirit to dwell amongst us and guide us.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, help me to be mindful about praying with others and realize that in my walk with Christ, I should constantly be walking with others. Help me to understand that the Holy Spirit moves and works differently when I am unified with other believers. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
