For the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible. Leviticus 18: 11
Raise your hand if there was ever a time in your life when you heard someone say “Jesus died on the cross for our sins” and you had absolutely, positively no earthly idea what that was supposed to mean.
Keep your hand raised if you’re thinking right now Yea, I still don’t know what the heck that’s supposed to mean...
Before I became a Christian, anytime I heard someone say this, I would seriously think: How can a man die for my sins? That doesn’t make any logical sense. Those words hold 0 meaning for me.
To many people, that phrase doesn’t make logical sense, but that’s because it’s not supposed to.
It makes spiritual sense.
Our blood is our life force. Every part of our bodies needs blood to thrive.
Moreover, we are mind, body, and spirit simultaneously.
That means even the intangible things that make up who we are, like our thoughts, intentions, pains, spiritual outlook, etc. are a part of our life system; even down to the cellular level.
Those intangibles are intertwined with our physical life force – our brains, our hearts, our breath, and our blood.
So when God had the Israelites sacrifice innocent animals, the spiritual purity of those helpless beings were transmuted onto the people to cover their sins…through their blood.
Now think about what that means with regards to Jesus:
He was pure.
He was without sin.
He was powerful.
He was fully a part of God’s being, only in the flesh.
And He literally gave His life (or His blood) on the cross for the transmission of our sins.
When He died, all of our “mess” was pulled into Him, and all of His goodness and power was projected onto us through our belief.
Only He did what those animals couldn’t do.
He rose again. Which means His blood (the life force that healed the sick, raised the dead, and cured the blind) is eternal.
Jesus walked this earth as the only pure and all-powerful human being in history. He shed His blood and died for our sins so that whosoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life.
Does it make a little more sense now?
I hope so.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Amen!! Makes perfect sense to me!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
