You said, ‘Just tell us what the Lord our God says, and we do it!’ And today I have told you exactly what he said, but you will not obey the Lord your God any better now than you have in the past.” – Jeremiah 42: 20-21

A few years ago, I had a very respectful discussion with a man about his beliefs and he stated he only believes in what he can see.

And I’m thankful he was not in the pack of Israelites left behind during the Babylonian exile.

Because they too could not bring themselves to believe in a God they could not see.

The Lord sent word (through Jeremiah of course) to the small remnant of Israelites still inhabiting the land to not flee to Egypt. Because if they did, they would be killed.

However, if they stayed in Judah, God promised to protect them.

But the people, fearing the Babylonians would either kill them or exile them from the land, refused to obey the command.

They didn’t even consider the possibility that God would protect them; they chose to continue to worship their idols.

So their defiance should be a lesson to us:

We can’t activate God’s power through disbelief.

There may be seasons in life where it feels hard to believe, but we only have to trust a little bit and act in accordance to see God work.

On this side of heaven, we can’t see God with our physical eyes, but we have to trust that in all situations, He really is there and He loves us.

Because He does.

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, when the enemy comes to attack my faith, please send your Holy Spirit to fill me up so that my faith will remain strong. In my moments of doubt, heal my disbelief so my life will reap the benefits of my faith. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
