Looking Back Destroys the Promise

When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the Lord was merciful…But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt – Genesis 19:16;26

I have to confess. There once was a time when I would pray about the desires of my heart (God’s promises). And then soon after, I’d melt into a puddle of salty tears.

I would look back over my life and re-live every disappointment I’d ever experienced regarding my promise.

I let my emotions overpower my faith, and God wasn’t able to do much for me.

Sometimes God is grabbing us by the hand and urging us to step into a brighter future, but we resist and focus on the destruction that was in the past.

Why do we compulsively look back when nothing we want, nothing that is good for us… is back there?

It’s like we become addicted to disappointment. We don’t want to face a future we can’t control. But when we allow God to truly be in control, we can look to the future with confidence.

As illustrated with Lot’s wife, looking back kills the promise of a blessed future.

So do yourself a favor: DON’T LOOK BACK!

God is a forward-moving God. And He always wants us to be looking out over the horizon.

Because that’s where the promise is.

Be blessed,

Alexia

    Amen!

Not just looking back at disappointments, but thinking about “happier” times that most likely would lead us down the wrong path God would not have for us!
