Sanballat was very angry when he learned that we were rebuilding the wall…”What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices? Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap – and charred ones at that?” – Nehemiah 4: 1-2
Have you every shared a dream, goal, or project with someone only for them to shoot it down?
Doesn’t feel too good, right?
Well, it’s just a fact that not everyone will understand the vision that God has placed in our hearts.
When Nehemiah learned that the walls of Jerusalem had been torn down and the gates had been set ablaze by the armies of Babylon, he mourned, fasted and prayed.
And soon after, God placed a strong desire in his heart to go rebuild the wall.
He recruited some of his counterparts to help him with the reconstruction and together they were fiercely determined to restore the wall.
But just as they were gaining momentum with their work, along came some mockers to try to throw them off course.
But Nehemiah didn’t even dignify these leeches with a response. He just prayed and kept working!
Scripture says that Nehemiah worked early and late, from sunrise to sunset.
His work ethic was strong because His belief in God far outweighed any of the negativity that was thrown at him.
And that’s how we must be when God has placed a passion in our hearts.
We have to ignore all the judgment, misunderstandings, laughter, negativity, low-expectations, and underestimations that may be hurled at us.
And just maintain our tunnel vision on God so we can keep working diligently until He brings the vision to life!
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, help me to never be discouraged or thrown off course by another person’s opinions or judgments. Strengthen my spirit and keep me focused on working on the vision you’ve placed in my mind and heart. Encourage me and affirm within me that your plans will never be defeated. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
