The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.” Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” – Acts 8: 29-31
My father once told me, “I wouldn’t serve a God that I couldn’t ask questions.” And by that, he didn’t mean that I should question God.
Rather, I should know that God, with His unfailing love and wisdom, will be faithful to give me understanding when I’m confused about His word.
The Bible is truly inexhaustible. It’s mind-blowing how much meaning is packed into just one book.
If we try to sit down and read it all by ourselves, there’s no way we’ll understand it all.
We may understand bits and pieces, but there will definitely be some fundamental messages that’ll go straight over our heads.
That’s why we have to be like the Ethiopian eunuch that the Holy Spirit sent Philip to help.
He was humble enough to know that he needed instruction, and after reading a passage in the book of Isaiah, he asked Philip, “Tell me, was the prophet talking about himself or someone else?”
And Philip, filled with the Holy Spirit, compassionately reviewed the verses with him and told him all about the Good News of Jesus Christ.
So when we have questions, we shouldn’t be afraid to pray for understanding and ask others.
Because our questions are a sign that we’re truly seeking God, and He loves that!
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, give me a heart that continually seeks you. Fill me with humility so I will always ask questions when I don’t understand something about your Word. And help me to be so full of your Holy Spirit and your truth that I can be a resource to others who may need help in their faith walk. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
