For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me…’I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these, my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ -Matthew 26: 35-46
Isn’t it funny that anytime God did something great and powerful through someone in Scripture, He always chose an unlikely person?
- Moses found himself unworthy to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
- Gideon questioned his ability because he was the least of all the members of his family.
- The mighty King David was also considered the least of his family.
So what we can take from this is that God’s value system is not our value system.
People judge with superficial, man-made criteria, but God looks at the heart and is no respector of persons.
He wants us to view others from His perspective, not our own.
We should see as much value in the beggar as we see in the Nobel Prize winner.
Our compassion should not be reserved for the people we deem to be worthy of it, but for everybody.
Because God has made it crystal clear:
However we treat one person, especially those we consider the least in our society, is how we’ve treated Him!
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, please forgive me for the times that I’ve hurt and dishonored you with the way I’ve treated others. Help me to be more compassionate, loving, and understanding of everyone I come across. Show me when and where I can be a blessing to others in need. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
