The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord. And it is good for people to submit at an early age to the yoke of his discipline. – Lamentations 3: 25-27.
Whenever I see a young child walk to the altar to give their life to Christ, a wave of joy flashes across my heart.
Because if a child sincerely gives their life to Christ, they can’t go wrong!
But we must remember that children must be taught in the ways of the Lord.
And when it comes to our children and other children we are connected to, we must remember that our behavior can either draw them closer to God or push them away.
So we have to show them what following God looks like by:
- Reading and explaining Scripture to them
- Praying with (not just for) them on a regular basis
- Showing genuine compassion and concern for their feelings
- Sharing our testimonies with them
- Making them feel valuable, special, and cared for
Because when children can genuinely feel the spirit of Christ coming from our hearts, it makes a powerful and lasting impact on their lives.
But if we claim to know Christ, yet don’t value supporting or teaching the children around us, we’re fooling ourselves and acting as major stumbling blocks.
And Jesus made it very clear in Matthew 18: 6 how serious it is to cause a child to stumble:
If anyone causes one of these little ones – those who believe in me – to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
So let’s set our children up for success and encourage them to submit their lives completely to God at an early age.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, help me to be a guiding light not just for my own children, but for any child who will be impacted by my behavior. Help me to demonstrate the love of Christ in a way that makes them feel loved, cared for, and important. Lord, prevent me from being a stumbling block for any child around me who is looking to establish a relationship with you. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
