“Healthy people don’t need a doctor – sick people do.” Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” – Matthew 9: 12-13

Have you ever met a person who’s never had any type of medical issue whatsoever? Never had a cold, the chickenpox, or even an upset stomach?

If you have, I’d love to meet this person to ask them what planet they’re from.

Because we’re all prone to sickness.

However, some of us don’t believe we ever need to see a doctor when in fact, we do…

When the Pharisees questioned why Jesus associated himself with such scum as the tax collectors, Jesus had to give them a wake up call.

He reminded them that their self-proclaimed righteousness was nothing more than a delusion of grandeur.

And that He wasn’t sent to earth for those who think they are righteous, but for those who know they are sinners.

It’s only when we recognize that we’re sinners – that we hurt others and disappoint God sometimes – that we’re able to have a truthful relationship with Christ.

And show others the mercy that God shows us on a daily basis.

We simply don’t have the right to judge, condemn, or demonize anyone.

We have to examine our own hearts, ask Jesus to forgive us, and spread His love indiscriminately to those around us.

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, help me to always possess the understanding that I’m a sinner and I’m no better than anyone else. Give me a heart that is slow to anger, quick to forgive, and resistant to judging others. Let me be the type of person who examines themselves closely instead of finding fault in others. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
