The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. Psalms 121: 7-8
One thing we always have to be mindful of in our faith walk is that God’s thoughts are not our thoughts.
And He is watching over us with love in every circumstance of our lives, both good and bad:
- When we’ve gotten a promotion as well as when we’ve lost our jobs
- When we’ve had babies as well as when we’ve lost loved ones
- When we’re traveling the world as well as when we’re in the hospital
- When we’re treated with love as well as when we’re being abused
- When we’re at peace as well as when we’re experiencing inner turmoil
We have to remember that God’s plan for us is eternal.
And the bumps and pitfalls in our lives are there for a reason – to give us strength, endurance, depth, and hope.
This is what Horatio Spafford understood to be true after losing his only son to Scarlet fever in 1871 and then soon after losing all four of his daughters in a shipwreck in 1873.
Even after those tragic losses, he felt blessed and penned the hymn It Is Well With My Soul:
When peace like a river, attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll –
Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to know
It is well, it is well with my soul.
He counted his trials as joy because He knew God was faithful and that he would meet his children again in heaven.
While we may not always understand why certain things happen to us, we must always be confident in God’s love for us just like Horatio was.
He watches over our souls as we come and go, and He’s made provisions through His son Jesus Christ for us to have eternal life.
So go ahead and breathe a sigh of relief.
Because God is holding and loving you right now, and He will hold and love you forever.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, thank you for being who you are and for loving me so much. I thank you for watching over me in my comings and goings, but I’m most thankful that you’ve promised to watch over my soul for all of eternity. God, be my strength when I face trials in my life, and help me to be spiritually mature so that I can be at peace in every circumstance of my life. In Jesus Name, I pray, Amen.
Amen. That hymn is still powerful, even today. The men’s choir so our church recently sang it, I think it was for communion service. Beautiful prayer at the end. Thanks for your ministry Alexia, you are blessing so many people!
