Can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself? – Isaiah 10: 15

One of the things that God finds really detestable is boasting.

And in the Old Testament, we see a lot of kingdoms fall because of that very thing.

In Isaiah chapter 10, God uses the King of Assyria to accomplish His purpose in Jerusalem.

But the king decided to take all of the credit as though He did everything himself.

In his arrogance, he boasted:

By my own powerful arm I have done this. With my own shrewd wisdom I planned it… (Isaiah 10: 13)

He was nothing but a tool, an ax used by God, yet he held on tight to his delusions of grandeur.

I guess that’s why I have a problem with the term “self-made millionaire.”

Because nobody accomplishes anything without God having His hand in it.

And the wonderful thing about God is that He’s no respecter of persons. He can take the most unlikely person and use them to do the greatest things.

We just have to be careful when success comes our way because if we lose sight of the truth, we’ll fall into the pit of self-aggrandizement.

We must always give God the glory, honor, and praise.

Because it is from Him and Him alone that we receive our help.

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, I pray that you would always keep my ego in check. Don’t let me be fooled into embracing a self-centered mindset. Right now I give you all the glory, honor, and praise for everything you’ve done for me in the past and everything you will do for me in the future. Help me to always stay humble so my life will be pleasing in your sight. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
