Don’t make your living by extortion or put your hope in stealing. And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life. – Psalms 62:10
It’s no secret that our society is money obsessed.
We can’t even watch a funny cat video on YouTube without being bombarded with “get rich quick” ads.
And we often measure how successful we are by how much money we have in the bank or by how many lavish vacations we take.
If the stock market goes down, we panic when our portfolios lose value.
When at the end of the day, we can’t take a single penny with us when we leave this earth.
Sure, we all want to have enough money to buy the house of our dreams, live comfortably, pay off our loans, and travel the world.
But we can’t idolize material things and seek after them more than we seek after God.
Because it profits us nothing to gain the all the riches of the world when we’ve lost our souls.
Our world is just a microcosm compared to the eternal glory of heaven, so we shouldn’t focus too much on the value systems that have been created here.
Rather, we should find joy in the simple things, and strive towards embodying the peace and love of God that surpasses all understanding.
Our success shouldn’t be measured by how much money we have, but by how loving, kind-hearted, forgiving, generous, and Christ-like we are.
If God blesses us with financial gain, we should enjoy it with the understanding that it’s a loan that He can come collect at any time.
And we should root our hearts in the truth that His love and mercy will endure forever.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, help me to prioritize You in my life no matter what my finances look like. Help me to understand that there is no magic dollar amount that can bring me the amount of inner peace and satisfaction that you and your Word can bring. Help me to not be influenced by the world’s value system, but by the power and truth of your Son Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
