“…people will come from all over the world – from east and west, north and south – to take their places in the Kingdom of God. And note this: Some who seem least important now will be the greatest then, and some who are the greatest now will be least important then.” – Luke 13: 29-30

Throughout all of human history, people have sought rank, honor, and importance.

We love to be recognized for our uniqueness, gifts, talents, intelligence, and “specialness.”

But we have to be careful of desiring praise from other human beings.

Because people didn’t create the world. People don’t have all the answers. And people don’t hold infinite wisdom, power, and love.

Only God can hold claim to those things.

So our focus shouldn’t be on seeking validation, approval, and praise from people.

Our focus should be on pleasing God by worshipping Him in spirit and in truth.

He sees what we do in private when nobody else is watching. He sees the innermost contents of our hearts.

And if He’s not pleased with our private lives, it’s not going to make a difference how many people celebrated us in public while we were alive.

Because God loves humility and sincere worship.

And whether He moves us into the spotlight while we’re here or keeps us behind the scenes, ultimately it’s the innards of our hearts that He will examine when He decides who He will elevate in His Kingdom.

So we really have to take Jesus’ words to heart:

Some who seem least important now will be the greatest then, and some who are the greatest now will be least important then.

Be blessed,

Alexia
