When I was a young girl, I quickly learned that as far as my family was concerned, laziness was a cardinal sin.

If my grandmother called me out for being lazy, it was the worst feeling in the world.

Some people have a hard time finding motivation to move and get things done because they suffer from depression, but true laziness is something else altogether, and I believe my family was right to guide me against it.

Laziness is intentionally not doing things that are well within our capabilities (and energy levels) to do – things that when left undone, create negative consequences for us in our lives.

And if we can’t take care to do simple things for our own betterment, how in the world are we going to be able to get the Kingdom work done that God has called us to do?

I believe eradicating laziness starts at the most fundamental level: maintaining a clean home and workspace.

Studies have shown that cleanliness has a direct positive impact on our mental health while clutter and messiness causes decreased focus and irritability.

So we have to be mindful to clean those dirty dishes, put away our laundry, and make our beds everyday so we can better focus on the more important tasks that lie before us.

We should avoid putting off for tomorrow what can be accomplished today, because if we put things off, we will come up empty handed and have nothing to gather in our seasons of harvest.

Nothing truly good comes in life without diligent work and God’s divine intervention.

So if we want to make God smile and see Him work, we have to banish laziness from our lives.

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, please help me resist any and all proclivities towards laziness. Lord, give me the right mindset so I can maximize each day and get things done without wasting time. Help me to stay active, alert, and focused on the tasks that you have set before me so that I may do your will. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
