“This is what the Lord has commanded: A man who makes a vow to the Lord or makes a pledge under oath must never break it. He must do exactly what he said he would do.” Numbers 30: 1-2

Think about this for a second: Anything God said He would do, He’s done it.

He promised to give Abraham and Sarah a son, and He did it.

He promised to multiply Abraham’s descendants so they’d be more numerous than the stars in the sky, and He did it.

He promised to deliver the Israelites into the land flowing with milk and honey, and He did it.

But what if there were one or more instances in the Bible where God failed to uphold His word?

How would you feel about praying to Him and serving Him? Would His track record cause you to mistrust Him?

Would it damage your relationship with Him?

It would for me.

So if we’re called to be godly and to follow Christ, part of doing that involves keeping our word to one another.

If you say or promise you’re going to do something, DO IT! Let your “yes” be “yes” and your “no” be “no.”

When you fail to keep your word to another person, it creates mistrust, disappointment, and hurt.

It essentially damages your relationship with that person. It makes the person take a few steps back from you in order to protect themselves.

You go from being a loving person, to an inconsiderate, unloving, and selfish person the moment you back track on your word and fail to deliver on what you said you were going to do.

And that’s not the way of love that God wants us to live in.

Remember that trust is built over time, but it can be shattered in an instant.

If you know you’ve dropped the ball on somebody, show integrity and apologize (without having to be confronted by the person). It’s the compassionate and loving thing to do.

And do your best to only make promises that you can actually keep.

Be a man or woman known for keeping your word!

Be blessed,

Alexia
