Putting confidence in an unreliable person in times of trouble is like chewing with a broken tooth or walking on a lame foot. – Proverbs 25: 19
In times of trouble and crisis, in order to get help, we have to show a degree of vulnerability.
We’ve got to open up to someone for support.
But to open up to the wrong person? Well, we’d be better off standing in front of a roaring freight train.
Because the damage that comes from putting confidence in a gossip, an evil-spirited or judgemental person, or someone who is just emotionally unavailable or apathetic is a gift of disaster that won’t stop giving.
You just simply can’t share your business with everybody.
At the lowest point of my life, I put my confidence in known gossips.
And almost 15 years down the line, the thought of being mocked and talked about as I went through a mental breakdown that almost killed me still breaks my heart.
So I know from experience just how accurate Solomon was when he wrote this proverb.
Trusting an unreliable person in a time of trouble is indeed like walking on a lame foot or chewing with a broken tooth.
Because it causes a painful situation to become excruciating. Pain goes from level 7 to level 3,000.
So in our lowest points, the most reliable friend we can turn to is Jesus Christ.
He will guide us, give us discernment, and help us to seek out the right people and places for help.
While some folks may pour salt on our wounds, He will give us sweet relief when we put our trust in Him.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, in my times of trouble, please give me the strength to persevere and the discernment and wisdom to choose the right people to rely on for support. Protect me from anyone who would seek to do me harm or who would make my situation worse. And help me to be a strong and reliable support for those around me who need help. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
