Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. -Colossians 3: 1-3
If you’re familiar with Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday program, you’ll often hear her talk about “A-ha” moments or moments of deep spiritual clarity.
And when I had an “A-ha” moment about the reality of heaven, my perspective on life went through a major paradigm shift.
When I came to the realization that the world had nothing of true substance to offer me, it felt like I could literally feel my earthly desires rise up and leave my body.
All the markers of earthly success and happiness that human beings have constructed – marriage, children, money, clothes, big houses, fancy trips, beauty, lots of friends, etc. – just didn’t matter to me anymore in the slightest.
Because I realized something very important: I don’t belong here.
And there is nothing here that can fulfill me and bring peace to my soul the way the things of heaven can.
If God made heaven and earth, and the things of heaven are far more glorious than anything that can be found or experienced here, why should we set our sights low by putting all of our hopes and dreams in what the world has to offer? Things that will fade away?
Instead of focusing on what we want or what we don’t have in our lives right now, we should focus on the realities of heaven and how incomprehensibly beautiful it will be.
Because at any moment, our lives could be snatched away from here.
But once we’re in God’s kingdom with Jesus, we will be there forever.
Be blessed,
Alexia

Prayer: God, I pray for my spiritual roots to continue to grow deep down into Jesus. Sever the ties between me and this world completely so that my heart and mind will never look to the world for fulfillment or happiness. Keep my spirit and desires focused on You and the promise of your heavenly Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
