On the first day of the new year, ten and a half months after the flood began, the floodwaters had almost dried up from the earth. Noah lifted back the covering of the boat and saw that the surface of the ground was drying. Two more months went by, and at last, the earth was dry! – Genesis 8:13-14
“I’ve been patient long enough!”
“How much longer will I have to wait?”
“How much longer will I have to endure?”
Have you ever felt this way? If you’re a human being, chances are that you have.
But we all have to remember one very simple thing: God has no clock.
This is something Noah seemed to understand very well. Every part of the great flood experience required his patience:
- Building the ark
- Rounding up the animals
- Tolerating the smell of the live animals
- Waiting for the waters to recede
Yet Scripture never mentions that Noah became weary, impatient, or upset. He just waited. God told Noah it would rain for 40 days and 40 nights, but He never told Noah how long it would take for the land to become dry.
Noah sent out a raven once and a dove three times before he received a sign of vegetation. When he pulled back the covering of the ark and felt the earth drying, he waited again for two more months.
When the earth became dry, he even waited for God to tell him when to leave the ark!
And note: This is the man God favored and saved.
If you’re struggling with patience today, ask God to help you truly embrace His timelessness. Ask Him to give you the peace and assurance that Noah had. Ask Him to help you not grow weary in following Him and doing good.
Be blessed,
Alexia
