“They say, ‘This message is from the Lord,’ even though the Lord never sent them. And yet they expect him to fulfill their prophecies! Can your visions be anything but false if you claim, ‘This message is from the Lord,’ when I have not even spoken to you?” – Ezekiel 13: 6-7
At some point or another, we’ve all been warned about the dangers of following false prophets.
And with so many accusing others of being modern-day false prophets, I think it’s worth it to spend some time analyzing that concept.
God used the prophet Ezekiel to forewarn the Israelites that they would be punished for not following His decrees.
But there were several false prophets around who jumped on the opportunity to reassure the Israelites that they would be okay.
Scripture doesn’t give us the exact motives of these prophets. They could have been seeking public approval, money, or an ego boost. Who knows.
But their biggest problem was that their prophesies didn’t align with God’s heart and word.
So when we listen to public figures today, we have to ask ourselves if what they’re saying can be verified with Scripture.
Is the person shining light on the true gospel of Christ, or are they using their position of influence to make others conform to their personal, worldly beliefs?
The only way to discern false prophecy is to be armed with the word; we have to read and study so we have a solid biblical foundation to stand on.
When we’ve eaten the word and hidden it in our hearts, we won’t have to be concerned about being led astray by false prophets or teachers.
Because the word of God is very clear and the more we read and meditate, the easier it will be to discern light from darkness.
False teachers and prophets don’t stand a chance against those who truly love God’s word.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, place within my heart the desire to read and study your word, and guard my heart and mind from teachers who are not aligned with your Word. Teach me to discern your voice very clearly, so I can live according to your principles. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
