She saw that the tree was beautiful, and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. – Genesis 3: 6 (NLT)

From the beginning of time, God has given us instructions for how He wants us to live.

And if we know God is all-knowing, good, and has a plan for each of us, why do we struggle so much to just follow His plan and be at peace with it?

Why do we instead choose to go our own way as if our way could possibly be better than God’s?

So often, we engage in willful selective amnesia and focus on only the attractive parts of our sin just like Eve.  After the serpent talked to her, all she saw of that tree was its beauty, allure, and what desires it could fulfill for her.

How selfish!

She wasn’t even thinking about what types of consequences her actions would have for poor Adam (who at the time was minding his business and being obedient to God).

But just like Eve, we want to take shortcuts to feel fulfilled instead of waiting on God to shower us with the blessings He’s already planned for us.

I’m sure that if Eve would’ve taken a moment to think about her actions, she would’ve considered a few things like:

Maybe God will guide me to another beautiful tree that I’ve never seen before or Maybe God will grant me wisdom suited just for me if I ask Him.

What Eve failed to realize is that God is the source of her fulfillment, and if she had only gone to Him with her questions and requests, He would’ve made sure she was fulfilled.

He created her and He loved her. Why would He have wanted her to feel unfulfilled?

And why would He ever want us to feel unfulfilled?

Take a moment today and think about areas in your life where you’re tempted to go your own way.

And then ask God to give you discernment and the strength to walk on His path.

Be blessed,

Alexia
