Imagine sitting at your job, your livelihood, the place where you’d never want to be fired… and a stranger coming in telling you, “Stop what you’re doing and follow me.”

I don’t know about you, but I’d probably call security.

But Jesus’ disciples were willing to drop everything, irrespective of earthly consequences, and follow Him.

Levi (Matthew) abandoned his tax collector booth without hesitation or any thought given to punishment from Roman officials.

Simon and Andrew who fished for a living, immediately dropped their nets and followed Jesus when He called out to them.

James and John left their own father behind in a boat…

And they did it because they knew Jesus was God in the flesh and nothing mattered more than being in His presence.

So as modern disciples of Christ, we too have to be willing and ready to leave things behind to follow Jesus more closely.

Whether it be a toxic relationship, an activity, a mindset, or some material thing, we have to be willing to let it go to make more room for our Lord.

Because there is nothing and nobody in this world that can replace the glory and blessing of being in the presence of Christ.

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, help me to get to a place where I can drop everything to follow you more closely, just like the first disciples. If there is anything that is obstructing my path toward you, I ask that you remove it and give me the confidence and assurance to live without it. Help me to understand that there is nothing more important in this life than being in your presence. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
