“How can someone like me, your servant, talk to you, my lord? My strength is gone, and I can hardly breathe.” Then the one who looked like a man touched me again, and I felt my strength returning. “Don’t be afraid,” he said, “for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!” – Daniel 10: 17-18

In light-hearted comedies, whenever an angel appears to the main character, the interaction is usually pretty jovial and cute.

However, Scripture paints a starkly different picture of angelic or heavenly encounters.

Whenever prophets had supernatural encounters with God or His angels, they were usually petrified.

Daniel fainted and lost his ability to speak when he had a vision of the angel Gabriel and the man with a belt of pure gold (who I believe was Jesus).

But miraculously, as soon as these angelic beings touched him, he regained his strength and speech.

So this should serve as a powerful reminder to us:

Sometimes our strength is the result of God’s hand on our lives, and has very little to do with our own capacity to persevere.

Throughout Scripture, God tells us to be strong and courageous because of our confidence in Him.

But when we’re too weak to move, His heavenly touch can enliven us like Popeye after eating a can of spinach.

He alone gives us the strength to do things we can’t do in our own power.

Because we are precious to Him.

So whenever we feel overwhelmed or burdened by the weight of life, all we have to do is ask Him for His heavenly touch.

And our God who is full of unfailing love and power will be faithful to revive us in our time of need.

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, when I feel overwhelmed, weak, or afraid, please touch me with your heavenly hand and fill me with your supernatural strength. Whenever I feel burdened or like there’s no way I’m going to make it, help me to understand and believe that you are my source of power. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
