“This message is for King Hezekiah of Judah. Don’t let your God, in whom you trust, deceive you with promises that Jerusalem will not be captured by the king of Assyria…They have completely destroyed everyone who stood in their way! Why should you be any different?” – Isaiah 37: 10-11
In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, King Sennacherib of Assyria decided to attack Jerusalem.
And knowing that Hezekiah depended heavily on the Lord for strength and guidance, Sennacherib decided that before he would attack with the sword, he would engage in a psychological attack.
He had his messengers relay all sorts of messages to Hezekiah and his people in order to shake and intimidate them:
- With your tiny army, how can you think of challenging my troops?
- Who are you counting on that makes you so confident?
- Don’t let Hezekiah fool you into trusting the Lord!
- Have the gods of any other nation saved them from the King of Assyria?
But even though these demoralizing fear tactics frightened Hezekiah, they didn’t destroy his faith.
He reminded himself that God alone is the ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth, and he prayed to the Lord for deliverance.
And God (being the wonderful and all-powerful God that He is) rescued him and his people!
So like Hezekiah, we too have to recognize the lies that satan is using in our lives to destroy our faith.
He may try to convince us that God doesn’t care about us, or that He can’t help us or heal us. He may even try to persuade us that God’s word itself isn’t true.
But we have to stand firm in the truth of our God!
He is good. He loves and cares for us. He holds all the power. His Word is true. And He’s NEVER been defeated.
So when the devil comes around trying to grab a hold of our minds, we have to ask God to dismantle his grip.
And when God delivers us from the devil’s shadow of doubt, we will clearly be able to see His promises on the horizon.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, in my moments of doubt, or when my mind is being hijacked by thoughts and beliefs that don’t come from you, I pray that you would strengthen me and rebuke any distracting or demonic spirits that seek to destroy my faith. Help me to always embrace the truth of who you are so I can stand firm in your promises. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
Not today satan!
