“Ask the Lord your God for a sign of confirmation, Ahaz. Make it as difficult as you want – as high as heaven or as deep as the place of the dead…” All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’). – Isaiah 7: 11; 14
When I wasn’t a Christian, it was so incredibly difficult for me to wrap my head around the concept of Jesus.
The story of a virgin giving birth and Him performing impossible miracles just seemed like an old folktale to me, and I didn’t give any credence to it.
But little did I know, the prophecies of Jesus in the Old Testament seemed just as far-fetched to the people living in that time as they once did for me.
In those days people heard of God’s miracles of parting the Red Sea and sending plagues on the Egyptians.
They saw God help them in battles.
But come on, a virgin giving birth? How could that possibly happen? What kind of bizarre prophecy is that?
It’s God’s greatest miracle and most extraordinary sign and wonder, that’s what it is.
And if it sounds hard to believe, that’s because it is.
But all the historical and scientific evidence that we have shows that the accounts of Jesus are indeed real.
So if we stop and think about it, we should feel so good knowing that there is a God who loves us so much that He would send Jesus to bear the burden of all of our sins.
God’s love for us is just simply incomprehensible and unbelievable.
And it’s incredibly comforting to know that no matter how far we veer off the path, God will always be chasing behind us with grace and mercy, ready to restore us with His everlasting love.
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, I understand that you are a God of miracles and wonders, and I thank you so much for sending your miraculous and wonderful Son Jesus to earth to bear the burden of my sins. Without Jesus, I would be lost, so thank you for sending Him to teach and guide me. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
