Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. -Isaiah 1:17
President John F. Kennedy famously stated, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
And throughout Scripture, we see that God holds the same attitude towards us when it comes to our relationship with Him.
Yes, we have our heart’s desires and we look to God in faith to answer our prayers, and there’s absolutely no crime in this.
But we must remember that above everything else, God is after our hearts.
And He wants us to have a heart that 1) asks what we can do to please Him and 2) loves others just as much as we love ourselves.
So when we see others struggling and needing a helping hand, we should make it a point to stop what we’re doing and help.
We should try earnestly to empathize with others and think of how we would want to be treated if we were in their shoes.
And God doesn’t want us just simply to lend a hand of support every now and again.
Scripture tells us He wants us to “defend” others and “fight” for their rights.
As Christians, seeking justice for others should be our natural way of life.
So whether we take up the cause of caring for the poor and homeless, helping disadvantaged children, or helping some other group that doesn’t have the capacity to help themselves, we should take a stand and fight for these folks.
Because Scripture is very clear.
God’s desire for us is to do good, seek justice, and fight for the rights of others.
Be blessed,

Prayer: God, show me how I can best serve my community with the unique skills and talents you have given me. Give me a heart that seeks justice and wants to fight for the cause of others who are less fortunate than I am. Increase me in Christ-like character every day so I can live the way you want me to live. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
