The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai: “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.” But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. -Jonah 1: 1-3
Jonah is hands down the most stubborn and defiant prophet in the entire Bible.
Other prophets like Moses and Gideon doubted their capabilities to accomplish the tasks God asked them to perform, but Jonah just flat out said, “Absolutely not. I’m not gonna do what you say, God.”
But what he didn’t realize is that when God calls folks to do His work, it’s not a suggestion or an option.
It’s a command.
And we can either obey, or suffer the consequences until we get the point and get back on track.
Jonah, unfortunately, took the difficult route.
It took him being thrown over his “escape from God” ship and swallowed by a whale to finally submit and ask for forgiveness and salvation.
And when the Lord told him to get up and go to Nineveh the second time, he didn’t dare lollygag.
It’s funny how some of us continue to get swallowed by “whales” in our lives because we keep missing that all-important memo from God.
We should know that the only way to decode God’s calling for our lives is through prayer and reading His word. It’s only then that we’ll start to make real progress on the path to our calling.
It’s only then that we’ll start to make real progress on the path to our calling.
And just imagine how glorious it will be when we answer that call!
Be blessed,
Alexia
Prayer: God, teach me how to hear your voice clearly so I can respond to the calling you’ve placed on my life. Lead me away from defiance, reluctance, and fear so I will be obedient to your commands. I understand that you have a master plan, so help me to stay dedicated to you so I can play my part well. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
