“I am not allowed to eat or drink anything here in this place. For the Lord gave me this command: ‘You must not eat or drink anything while you are there.'” But the old prophet answered, “…an angel gave me this command from the Lord: ‘Bring him home with you so he can have something to eat and drink…'” – 1 Kings 13: 17-18

Later in his life, King Solomon strayed from God and worshipped other gods.

Because of this, his son Rehoboam was only allowed to rule over the tribe of Judah, while an outsider, Jeroboam, was crowned King of Israel.

During Jeroboam’s reign, God raised up an unnamed prophet from Judah to speak out against him. And for a while, this prophet was firm in his obedience to God.

That is until he got tricked.

God gave the prophet specific instructions not to eat or drink anything while he was in Bethel and to go back to Judah on a different route than he came.

But when he encountered an older prophet on his way back to Judah, he was fooled into doing exactly what God told him not to do!

The young prophet went back with the old man and ate at his house.

And sadly, he never made it back to Judah because he was killed by a lion for his disobedience.

So there’s a valuable lesson here for us:

When we know God has spoken to us and given us an assignment, we have to follow the plan or else suffer the consequences.

God has a plan and destiny for each of us, but it’s up to us to stick with Him and stay the course.

So we have to be vigilant to not fall for the tricks of the enemy.

When God has spoken to our hearts, we can’t listen to anyone or anything else.

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, help me to be so in tune with you that discerning your voice from the voice of the enemy will be as easy as pie. Help me to stay alert, and with your strong hand, prevent any distracting spirit from infiltrating my thoughts to make me second guess you. Help me to stay the course so I can accomplish my purpose in life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
