In assigning the priests to their duties, Solomon followed the regulations of his father, David. He also assigned the Levites to lead the people in praise and to assist the priests in their daily duties…Solomon did not deviate in any way from David’s commands concerning the priests and Levites and the treasuries. – 2 Chronicles 8: 14-15

Learning from our own mistakes is valuable, but to learn from the mistakes of others is priceless!

The world is full of many dangers and perils, so it’s a tremendous blessing to heed the advice of folks who can save us a lifetime’s worth of unnecessary grief and sorrow.

That was the case for Solomon. He was blessed exponentially for closely following his father’s advice.

Scripture doesn’t explicitly tell us why Solomon didn’t dare deviate from David’s instructions concerning the priests and the Levites.

But one can infer that David shared with Solomon how Uzzah from the tribe of Judah died while trying to steady the Ark of the Covenant because God specifically appointed the Levites to handle the Ark.

And Solomon most likely studied Scripture for himself as his father prescribed and learned about what happened to Aaron’s sons and others who disobeyed God’s instructions for working in the Holy Place.

Solomon took heed to the warnings and made the wise decision to stay far away from God’s wrath.

So in our lives, we must be careful to do the same.

We should all embrace the “you ain’t gotta tell me twice” mentality and save ourselves unnecessary heartache!

And if the mistakes we’ve made will help someone else avoid the same pitfalls, we should be transparent and give them the skinny so they can take the appropriate precautions.

Time heals all wounds and God can correct all mistakes, but blessed is the person who evaluates consequences and dodges bullets!

Be blessed,

Alexia

Prayer: God, please guard my heart and mind with your Word and give me the discernment and understanding to stay away from situations and people who will cause calamity in my life. Help me to listen closely and take it seriously when others share their experiences. God, fill me up with foresight so I may live peacefully and stay firmly within the confines of your will. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
