“I am here to tell you that you and your family are the focus of all Israel’s hopes.” Saul replied, “But I’m only from the tribe of Benjamin, the smallest tribe in Israel, and my family is the least important of all the families of that tribe! Why are you talking like this to me?” – 1 Samuel 9: 20-21

There are so many amazing patterns found in God’s Word.

One of which is God’s habit of using ordinary people to display His extraordinary greatness.

From the very beginning, we see the most unlikely people performing the most spectacular feats through God’s power.

  • Moses had a speech impediment, anxiety, and low self-confidence, but God used him to free the Israelites and part the Red Sea.
  • Gideon saw himself as the least and weakest member of his family, but God raised him up to be a great judge of Israel.
  • Saul saw himself as an unimportant person who came from an unimportant tribe, but God set him apart to be the first king of Israel.

This recurring theme points to a truth that should be encouraging for anyone who lacks confidence or feels insignificant:

Anyone can be a vessel for God’s phenomenal works!

It doesn’t matter what family we come from, what we look like, how old we are, how much money or education we have, or how many mistakes we’ve made.

It doesn’t matter if we’ve been ostracized or the butt of everyone’s jokes.

Because God loves to use the underdogs of society to demonstrate His limitless power.

He can cause each one of us to be a notable force for good within our communities.

When our eyes are focused on Him, we can accomplish the impossible.

Today, ask God to deliver you from uncertainty, doubt, or low self-esteem. Ask Him to guide you deeper into your purpose so that His light can shine through you, and you can be a powerful beacon for His kingdom.

Be blessed,

Alexia
