“And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” Deuteronomy 6: 5-7

If there was ever a prescription for how to love God, this is it.

It’s a wonderful reminder that God is looking for us to love Him with our whole hearts.

He doesn’t want us to treat His Word like a nice pair of shoes that we only wear on special occasions so that we look nice in front of others.

He wants us to eat, sweat, bleed, and breathe His Word, memorize verses, meditate daily…

He doesn’t want us to crack the Bible open just in church on Sundays, but all throughout the week.

Not just to meet our immediate needs and desires, but to gain deeper understanding.

Not just in public, but in private and with our children.

He wants His Word to become a part of the very essence of who we are, traveling with us wherever we go.

It’s a 24/7 deal!

Jesus called for us to abide in Him, which means to make the continual choice to stick with Him each and every moment of each and every day.

And we can only stick with Him and love Him if we keep the Word near to our hearts.

Take some time today to ask God to fill you with a spirit of discipline and a desire to draw nearer to His Word. Ask Jesus to come into your heart and teach you how to walk a little closer with Him.

Be blessed,

Alexia
