It is only eleven days’ journey from Horeb (Mount Sinai) by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea [on Canaan’s border; yet Israel wandered in the wilderness for forty years before crossing the border and entering Canaan, the promised land]. Deuteronomy 1: 2
When I read this verse for the first time, I slapped my forehead and shook my head.
Because of disobedience, obstinance, fear, and complaining, the Israelites delayed their arrival to the Promised land by forty years.
FORTY YEARS!
When God delivered the Israelites from Egypt, He had a plan to fast-track them straight into the land flowing with milk and honey.
But He couldn’t get them there as fast as He intended to; there were too many instances where He had to stop and wait for them to act right.
A lot of times, that’s what delays us from receiving the blessings God has planned for us.
God has to wait for us to get our acts together!
Instead of fully committing ourselves to the Word, to prayer, to fully submitting to God, and to putting action behind our faith…
We live in doubt.
We don’t listen when God speaks to us.
We whine.
We complain.
We behave in ways that are completely outside of His will.
We don’t put Him first.
And then we have the nerve to question God about why His promise is taking so long.
We waste so much time drowning in our imaginary kiddie pools when all we need to do is stand up and look to God and His Word.
When you’re fully committed to serving God, you’ll be amazed at how fast He brings blessings into your life.
Don’t be like the wandering Israelites.
Get your act together asap!
Be blessed,
Alexia
