They incited a rebellion against Moses, along with 250 other leaders of the community, all prominent members of the assembly. They united against Moses and Aaron and said, “You have gone too far! The whole community of Israel has been set apart by the Lord, and he is with all of us. What right do you have to act as though you are greater than the rest of the Lord’s people?” – Numbers 16: 2-3
Benjamin Franklin famously said, “In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”
Well, I’d like to add a third thing to that list: living under authority.
We can all be certain that we live under God’s authority; He’s our eternal head honcho.
And if we know that’s the case, then we have to accept the fact that He allows certain people to hold positions of authority over us at different points in our lives.
This is something Korah the Levite learned the hard way. He didn’t understand that it was God’s plan for Moses and Aaron to lead the people of Israel.
If Korah had possessed any wisdom at all, he wouldn’t have foolishly staged a coup against Moses and Aaron.
What he didn’t realize was this:
When you attempt to overthrow an authority God has placed over you, you’re essentially attempting to overthrow God’s plan.
And that’s a major no-no.
God uses different authorities in your life for all types of reasons:
- To develop you
- To nurture you
- To teach you
- To strenghten you
- To motivate you
- To give you insight
- To prepare you
- To mobilize you
- To draw you closer to Him
So even though it may be hard to function under one or more of the authorities in your life, know that God is ultimately using these folks for your good.
Do your best to respect them.
And for the ungodly authorities like Pharaoh, God will make sure to give them a strong dose of discipline in order that they might turn their hearts towards Him.
Just remember that God has everybody in their positions for a reason.
Be blessed,
Alexia
