If a woman has a flow of blood for many days that is unrelated to her menstrual period, or if the blood continues beyond the normal period, she is ceremonially unclean. As during her menstrual period, the woman will be unclean as long as the discharge continues. – Leviticus 15: 25
According to Levitical law, when a woman experienced excess bleeding, she contaminated everything she touched.
Anything she sat on or laid on became unclean. If she bumped into someone, that person became unclean.
If a person touched an object that she touched, they became unclean.
Think about how miserable it would be to not be able to touch your spouse or children.
Think about how awful it would be to be an outcast, where people vanished every time you came around.
And what if you had to go through that humiliation for 12 years?
That’s what the woman with the issue of blood had to endure in the New Testament until she acted on her faith and touched Jesus.
Just imagine her walking in a crowd, bumping into people, knowing she was contaminating them…just to get to Jesus.
And think about how bold it was of her to reach out and touch Jesus when she knew that in any other setting, touching a person like this would make them unclean…
But she reached out despite everything because she knew in her heart of hearts that it was impossible to make Jesus unclean.
She knew that everything He touched became squeaky clean.
If you or someone you know feels condemned as “unclean” and outcast from society because of a criminal record, a virus or disease, a mental illness that carries a stigma, or some other isolating condition, be of good cheer.
Because Jesus has conquered the world and no one is unclean when He’s in their midst.
