The Lord has specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. The Lord has filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. Exodus 35: 30-31
When the Lord gave Moses the blueprint for the Tabernacle, intuitively, you would think that all the Israelites came together to build it.
Kind of like how you see volunteers come together to work on a Habitat for Humanity project.
But Scripture paints quite a different picture.
Many Israelites indeed provided materials for the construction of the Tabernacle. But that was pretty much the extent of their contribution.
The craftwork for the Tabernacle was largely performed by a man you rarely hear about in sermons or in any biblical teachings at all.
A wise and skilled man named Bezalel.
Here’s a list of some of the things Bezalel did for the Tabernacle:
- Decorated curtains with blue, purple, and scarlet thread
- Made 11 curtains of goat-hair cloth to serve as tent covering
- Constructed the framework for the Tabernacle with acacia wood
- Made silver bases to support the framework
- Made crossbars of acacia wood to link the frames
- Embroiderd cherubim into the curtains
- Made the Ark for the Covenant
- Made a table and lampstand overlaid with pure gold
- Made the incense altar
- Made the courtyard
- Made the robe that Aaron would wear for his priestly duties
Bezalel made just about everything for the Tabernacle; there are four chapters dedicated to showcasing his craftsmanship in the book of Exodus.
And Scripture mentions more than once that he worked with “great skill and care.”
So why have I said all of this today?
Because like Bezalel, God has imbued each one of us with special gifts and talents that He wants us to use with great skill and care to build His kingdom.
And you don’t have to be well-known to be a wonderful and important servant for the Lord.
So get to work using your God-given gifts!
Be blessed,
Alexia
Amen! God blesses us all with special gifts for the advancement of His Kingdom.
