If you mistreat my daughters or if you marry other wives, God will see it even if no one else does… – Genesis 31:50
Back in 2016, I was not a follower of Christ. I was lost and searching for spiritual meaning in just about every place I could find it.
And despite having crippling agoraphobia which made me fearful of driving long distances alone, I got in my car and traveled four hours from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale.
Why?
I found a reputable priestess in an African spiritual tradition who (for a hefty fee) agreed to give me counsel through divination.
Now before I left for my trip, I cleaned my apartment from top to bottom. 90% of the time, my apartment was clean.
Dishes were always washed, laundry was always clean and put away neatly, bathroom was always spotless. My bed was always made.
I was what my dad called a “Susan spotless.”
But I had a secret.
Hidden away underneath my bed was a bunch of junk mail, newspapers, coupons, bill statements, etc.
Basically every time I got my mail, everything I designated “review for later” would go underneath my bed. It was a bad habit, but I had an “out of sight, out of mind” attitude about it.
Nobody knew that junk was there except me.
Now let’s flash forward:
After this priestess finished amazing me with answers to all sorts of questions, telling me things that nobody else really knew about my life, she began cleaning off her divination table which had a deck of special cards, ornaments, and stones on it.
But in the middle of gathering her deck of cards, she stopped suddenly, looked up, stared me in the eyes and said:
“Oh…and you need to get all that stuff out from underneath your bed. Your spirit needs to be able to rest when you lay down.”
I was speechless.
During the entire ride back home, I was trying to figure out how she knew about my secret.
As time went on, God revealed certain things to me, and I realized that had I listened to everything that the priestess told me, I would’ve been led straight into a dangerous situation.
But something valuable still sticks with me from that trip:
If that woman who I’d never met before in my life could see the mess I had underneath my bed, how much more can God see?
God sees everything physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual about you. He knows you inside and out. He has an awareness of you that you yourself don’t even have.
So that means you can’t hide anything from God. You can’t deceive him. Even if nobody else knows you’re sinning, He knows.
But the beautiful thing about it is that if no one else knows how you’re feeling, God knows. If nobody else knows what you need, God knows.
And it’s a wonderful feeling to know that the One who knows the most about you is the One best equipped to help you in times of trouble, confusion, or sadness.
And He’ll never leave you nor forsake you.
Be blessed,
Alexia
