Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, ‘Can an old woman like me have a baby?’ Is there anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” – Genesis 18:13-14
If you’ve ever come across someone over 90 years old, you know how frail they are. If they look like they’re going to fall, you worry that they’re going to break into a million pieces like a rare glass vase.
So it’s not surprising that Abraham and Sarah doubted God’s promise to bless them with a child. How can a frail 90-something year old woman carry and birth a child? That’s just outlandish.
But if God says something will be done, it will be done. He holds the power to make anything happen.
Starting in Genesis 13, God tells Abraham about 7 or 8 times that he will be the father of many great nations.
But as time goes on and Abraham and Sarah get older, God’s promise begins to seem more and more like a joke. The both laughed in disbelief.
Have you been waiting on God’s promise for so long that it feels like it’s not going to happen?
Well don’t worry.
If God has placed a recurring desire in your heart, He placed it there with the intention that it would be fulfilled. That’s His promise to you.
But it’s up to you to believe Him and demonstrate faith accordingly.
Abraham and Sarah laughed, but had they not laid together in their old age believing they would birth Isaac, they wouldn’t have seen the promise come to life…literally.
Don’t laugh at, question, or doubt the promises of God.
Remember that God’s power, knowledge, and love for you is infinite. He can exceed your wildest expectations if you would only believe Him.
Be blessed,
Alexia
